Once the wave reaches the atrioventricular node, situated in the lower right atrium, it is conducted through the bundles of His and causes contraction of the ventricles.

In that contraction, the electrical current in and around the cell changes for an instant. The cells ajacent to them detect the electrical changes, causing them to beat as well, creating a domino-like effect.
