What is the area to live in when going to LaTrobe uni n partner works in the city? Somewhere with nature close

I'm moving from a town in Qld to Melbourne, my partner is from a city lifestyle and will be working in the city. I'm going to be at Latrobe Uni and want to have a happy compromise with the city life not out of reach for work and play but still with some surrounding wildlife and a decent community. All depends on how much you are willing to look for housing and how far your partner is willing to travel to work. Eltham is still nice, Greensborough is too.
Mill Park, Roseanna are nice places too
